Advocacy Pays Off: INEC Commences Inclusive Recruitment of Persons with Disabilities as ad-hoc staff for Osun 2022 Elections.

Ahead of the Osun 2022 governorship elections, IFA’s Access Nigeria campaign team paid an advocacy visit to the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Abdulganiyu Olayinka Raji, at the INEC’s State office in Oshogbo. The visit was to ascertain the level of preparedness for the coming election and the Commission’s progress on their commitments during the 7th Access Nigeria Campaign Inclusive Elections Roundtable meeting held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
Among the issues discussed are:
– The adequate training of ad-hoc staff for proper usage of assistive materials
– A continuous priority voting and friendly/flexible election procedures PWDs.
– Continuous partnership with security agencies to ensure the safety of PWDs etc.
The REC appreciated the campaign for its continuous efforts on PWDS issues and partnership with INEC. He assured the continuing deployment of assistive materials in the forthcoming elections.
Responding to the commitment of INEC during the Inclusive Election Round Table in Abuja, The REC said he has written to the Secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) requesting a list of PWDs Corp members.
As at the period of the visit, 13 names had been submitted, and still expecting more from the NYSC. The REC confirmed.
This depicts INEC’s integrity to the commitments of the communique and the inclusion of PWDs as ad-doh staff in the forthcoming elections.
