Access Nigeria Awards INEC Chairman and Six Others During the IDPD Celebration 2019
Access Nigeria on December 7th, 2019 awarded INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu and six others who have contributed to the success of the campaign.
The project for Nigerian voters with disabilities celebrated the 2019 international day for persons with disabilities in grand style amidst singing, poetry session and drama.
IFA executive director and team lead of the Access Nigeria campaign Grace Jerry said the objective of the celebration was to celebrate every PWD and raise awareness that Nigerians with disabilities have contributed to nation-building.
“The Access Nigeria campaign has brought about electoral reforms and innovations that has transformed Nigeria’s electoral system and enhanced PWD participation in electoral processes,” said Mr. Jesse John Access Nigeria project manager.
Counting on the gains of the campaign from 2016 when it started as Leave No One Behind, it will only be fair to recognize all the individuals who had worked tirelessly to ensure the goal of the campaign is achieved” He said.
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who was represented by INEC commissioner on partnership and outreach expressed appreciation over the leadership award. He said, “Such recognition is an incentive to do more”.
Other recipients of the award are INEC commissioners Hajjiya Amina Zakari, Dr Adekunle Ogunmola, Professor Antonia Simbine, Mrs Bello Lakunya, Senator ID Gyang, and Barrister Melody Emosah.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration was supported by NDI, USAID, UKAID and Save the Children.
