Strengthening Disability Inclusion in Nursing Education

The Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), supported by the Disability Rights Fund (DRF), together with the Nasarawa State Disability Commission, visited the School of Nursing, Lafia, to advocate for the inclusion of PWDs in nursing education and healthcare employment.

The Provost, Solomon Zari, commended the advocacy efforts and acknowledged the need for greater inclusion within the healthcare sector. Key commitments secured include a review of field policies with the Nursing Council to promote inclusivity, improved campus accessibility with ramps and assistive devices, and a partnership with IFA for disability awareness training. Additionally, the institution expressed interest in offering internship placements and hiring PWDs in administrative and IT roles.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in breaking barriers and ensuring that PWDs can pursue careers in healthcare without discrimination.
